Advanced Urban Visioning draws on decades of work connecting market research, transportation modeling, network design, operating economics, and implementation strategy. Earlier applications illustrate how these elements can help regions discover more effective approaches.
Metro Atlanta
The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce commissioned Alan Hoffman to lead the development of an aspirational transit plan. He developed the core strategy and helped shape the market research that informed URS Corporation’s planning and engineering work.
Technical analysis projected nearly twice the ridership per capital dollar invested compared with the existing long-range plan.

BAY AREA ReX EXPRESS TRANSIT NETWORK
Developed by Alan Hoffman for TransForm, with SPUR, in response to MTC’s request for a regional express transit proposal, ReX began with a clear objective: give transit a sustainable travel-time advantage over driving between regional hubs.
Hub locations, express links, and connecting services were developed together to extend that advantage to destinations throughout the region.

Alan Hoffman brings experience spanning market research, travel-demand modeling, transportation strategy, network design, and operating economics. Through CAUV, he helps agencies bring these disciplines together in a collaborative learning process that strengthens their own planning capabilities.
Hoffman holds master’s degrees from MIT, where he studied at the Center for Transportation Studies, and Harvard, where he studied organizational learning. He formerly served as a professor of Public Management at the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE) and taught City Planning and Public Administration at San Diego State University.
